At Sentinel Plastics, we specialise in precision machining of turned and milled plastic components, offering decades of experience as trusted plastic component manufacturers. With new enquiries arriving on our sales team’s desks every day, our customers can rely on the quality and expertise of our dedicated staff to manage each project seamlessly — from the very first enquiry right through to final despatch. Our advanced production control system, working hand‑in‑hand with our robust quality management procedures, allows us to closely and accurately monitor every order, ensuring consistent results and complete customer satisfaction.
Experienced Plastic Machining Turned Parts
When machining most engineering plastics on a lathe, we can usually run very high feeds and speeds with excellent results. Materials such as Acetal, Nylon, PTFE, ABS, and PVC machine extremely well, and in most cases, the chips form clean, continuous ribbons that are easily removed from the machine. One of the biggest advantages is that tool wear is minimal — standard high‑speed steel tools are more than sufficient for everyday plastic turning.
That said, insulation and industrial plastics require a more specialised approach and greater care to achieve the best results. Interestingly, machining fluids are rarely needed, as plastics naturally produce a smooth, high‑quality surface finish and can meet tight tolerances with ease. Tools designed for steel or aluminium typically perform just as effectively on plastics, meaning there’s no need for special tooling — and no added cost passed on to the customer.

The same principles apply when we are milling most types of plastic — fast speeds and feeds generally deliver the best results, with only a few exceptions depending on the material and the application. In fact, milling plastics often presents fewer challenges than turning, largely because the swarf isn’t continuous and is much easier to manage during machining.
At Sentinel Plastics, we have a large milling capacity, with multiple machines dedicated to specific materials to prevent cross‑contamination and maintain consistent quality. Just like with turning, coolants aren’t required — and in many cases, using coolant can actually be detrimental to insulation materials. This careful approach allows us to achieve clean, precise finishes every time.
Examples of Capacity Available at Sentinel
At Sentinel Plastics, we operate a total of 15 CNC machines, giving us the flexibility and capacity to handle projects of all sizes. Our equipment includes two Mazak VCN 530C machines, five XYZ 1020 VMCs, three Bridgeport VMCs, two ProTurn lathes, and two Mazak Quick Turn machines — just a selection of the advanced technology we use to produce high‑quality CNC‑machined plastic components.
